DREAMIND / WhatsApp Business account blocks: causes and the official API Back

WhatsApp has become a central channel for sales, follow-up and customer service in Mexico. For many brands, however, restrictions and account suspensions can interrupt that work.

If your business has been unable to message new contacts, has had its number restricted, or has seen an automation tool stop working, it is worth reviewing how that tool connects to WhatsApp and how consent is collected.

Unofficial integrations and account risk

An “unofficial API” is not an integration approved by Meta. The label often covers tools that imitate WhatsApp Web, extensions for bulk messaging, bots connected without official authorisation, or providers promising unlimited messaging outside the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Such tools may involve prohibited automation, scraping or unauthorised access. Complaints from recipients, high-volume cold outreach and missing opt-in can also put an account at risk.

Warning signs

  • Sending messages to people who did not expect or agree to receive them.
  • Using bulk-sending tools without clear consent.
  • Receiving frequent spam reports or blocks.
  • Not keeping a record of how customers opted in.

Using the official platform

For businesses that rely on WhatsApp, the WhatsApp Business Platform, including the Cloud API, offers an official route to connect messaging with customer service and sales workflows. Depending on the setup, a team can connect a CRM, use approved templates, manage several advisers and measure response times.

Practical steps to reduce risk

  1. Collect opt-in. Give people a clear choice to receive WhatsApp messages through a website checkbox, an explicit request, a consent-based ad or a conversation they start themselves.
  2. Be clear from the first message. Identify the business, explain why you are writing and make the next step simple.
  3. Review providers. Ask how the service connects to Meta Business and the WhatsApp Business Platform, and how it handles templates and policy requirements.
  4. Organise the customer journey. Use clear responsibilities, timely replies and a consistent follow-up process.

How Dreamind approaches it

We start with an assessment of messaging practices, opt-in and account risks. An implementation phase can then define authorised integrations, customer journeys and message templates. Finally, roles, service targets and metrics help the team manage the channel consistently.

If WhatsApp is central to your operation, treat it as a managed communication system rather than an improvised bot. An account interruption can affect leads, follow-up and sales.

Let’s make it happen.
