It is well known that the relationship between United States and China are not going well at all, that is why, for Mexico is raising its hand for Apple to move its manufacturing processes to the country that created Tequila. At least this is what the Secretary of Economy wants, Graciela Márquez who in recent statements in the framework of the talks on the treaty between the United States, Canada and Mexico (T-MEC), indicated that the Mexican authorities are interested in having Apple products manufactured in their territory, so they are willing to promote a relocation of one of the largest factories in Mexico. Apple in Asia in order for it to operate in Mexican territory.
In an interview with Reuters, the Mexican official placed strong emphasis on Mexico's industrial capacities, which she seeks to echo in order to achieve an increase in investment in the country, all thanks to the manufacture of steel for the automotive sector.
APPLE WANTS MEXICO?
While the automotive industry is an important part of these initiatives, the reality is that it is not the only sector in which Mexico would be interested.
According to Secretary Márquez, government authorities are seeking to establish communication with brands such as Apple, among other U.S. companies, so that they will consider the country as the next location for their production plants currently located in Asia.
All this thanks to the current trade tensions between the United States and China, which seem to be worsening with the recent request for the closure of the Chinese consulate in the country of the stars and stripes, and that I bet in a complicated position to many brands including the bitten apple, who would be one of the most affected by these changes.
Faced with an imminent trade war between the United States and China, many companies have planned to relocate their production plants in order to avoid possible tax increases or retaliation that could reduce their production.
That is why Mexico seems to have found the opportunity to be a production territory for major U.S. brands such as Apple, which, due to its geographical position, offers the bitten apple brand a better labor cost, this coupled with the good relationship between the U.S. and Mexico are factors that could allow this to become a reality.
"These phones do not have to be produced in China," Márquez assures Reuters news portal; the comments of the Mexican Secretary of Economy allow us to visualize the Mexican government's interest in U.S. and European companies that currently have their production in China, as well as other countries on the Asian continent.
IS THIS POSSIBLE?
This is not the first time that there has been talk of the possibility of the bitten apple giant's factories coming to Mexico. It is important to mention that in the middle of last year, a report indicated that Apple was already considering moving part of its production outside the Asian continent, in order not to lose territory and thus guarantee supply in its production chains.
At that time it was considered that 90% of the bitten apple products were being assembled in China; however Apple was already looking for alternatives to put an end to these numbers.
A report by Nikkei Asian Review indicated that Apple had asked its suppliers to study the possibility of moving 30% of the production of its products from the Asian continent to other countries, including Mexico.
